Council is planning repair works for Douglas Park Drive and has allocated $4M in its Capital Works program.
Current status
Unfortunately, Douglas Park Drive has incurred significant damage due to geological instability in the rock formations above and below the road.
Currently the road has temporary traffic lights to limit traffic flow to one lane.
To improve the road condition for the long-term, it will require re-engineering to manage stability.
The complex nature of the road and significant funds required mean detailed geotechnical specialists are required to investigate repair options prior to proceeding to repair. These options may include safety barriers, soil nails, edgebeams, piers, retaining walls, additional excavation, drainage works and road realignment.
Project update and next steps
Council has determined to engage specialists to prepare a strategic business case. This involves detailed geotechnical investigation, options analysis, preparation of technical designs for repair and cost benefit analysis. This process is similar to that followed by the state government when planning complex road projects. This strategic business case will then be reported to the elected Council for an investment decision.
We will continue to keep the community updated as we progress the Douglas Park Drive remediation project. At key milestones this will include direct engagement including a community kiosk in Douglas Park, likely towards the end of 2024.
It’s anticipated that the strategic business case will be reported to Council around mid 2025.
