Draft Drone Policy
Closes: May 13, 2025, 5:00 PM
Council is inviting feedback on the revision of the Drone (Remotely Piloted Aircraft System - RPAS) Policy which sets out Council’s framework for Council’s use of drone technology and the data collected.
This Policy was last adopted by Council on 18 February 2020. Council sometimes uses drones in situations such as disaster management, asset and land inspection, infrastructure maintenance and management, pest and vegetation management, waste management, compliance management, law enforcement, tourism and event promotion.
A review of the Policy has been undertaken to ensure that:
- Appropriate approvals are obtained by Council’s Officers prior to the use of Remotely Piloted Aircraft Systems (RPAS)
- Safety, privacy and legislative compliance requirements are considered and met by Council Officers who are CASA-Certified remote pilots
- Surveillance legislation is considered to protect the interests of the public
- Approvals are obtained by Commercial and hobby Drone (RPAS) pilots prior to the use of a RPAS during a Wollondilly Shire Council approved public event.
