Council often receives community concerns about the impact of campaign and voting materials on our environment. Candidates should be mindful of this when running their campaign.
Election advertising material must meet the requirements of the Election Act 2017. Please refer to Council’s Protocol for Election Signs in Public Places and the NSW Electoral Commission - Electoral Material Rules .
Registered political parties, groups, candidates and others can display election signage.
Posters relating to election campaign can be displayed from the start of the official opening of the election until 7 days after polling day at which time
they must be removed.
Its important to note that election advertising material cannot be displayed on or within land or buildings occupied, used by, or under the control or management of the Crown, NSW Government agencies, or a Council.
During the election period the New South Wales Electoral Commission (NSWEC) is the arbiter in the first instance of the laws and regulation of the election signage.
In the event that Council is required to remove any electoral signage Council will recover the cost of removal from the candidate.
