Supporting the Community
Council works with emergency services and other agencies to help plan for, deal with and recover from emergencies.
To prevent and prepare for emergencies we:
- Prepare emergency plans and take part in the Wollondilly Local Emergency Management Committee and Bushfire Risk Management Committee.
- Work to reduce flood risk.
- Include rules in our planning regulations to reduce risks like fire, flooding and the impacts of heat.
When an emergency is happening, we will respond in these ways:
- Support emergency services as needed.
- Send out crews to help with road closures, fallen trees, or other work to try and make things safe.
- Help spread important messages to the community.
What we do after an emergency is different in each case. Things we might do to recover include:
- Clean ups and repairs in public areas
- Extra services or advice to help the community clean up.
- Additional debris or clean up support may be provided
- Spread the word about any support available to people affected by the emergency utilising our Mobile Recovery & Resilience Van.
