Considerations if you're looking at building a secondary dwelling (granny flat). Secondary DwellingsA Secondary Dwelling (commonly referred to as a granny flat) is a self-contained dwelling that is built on the same lot as a principal dwelling (main house).
To determine whether approval is required to construct a Shed, first check on the State Environmental Policy (Exempt & Complying Development Codes) 2008 to determine if the work you are proposing is exempt development. If you don't satisfy the set criteria, approval is required for the Shed before any work commences on site.
