Wollondilly Shire contains much of Sydney’s drinking water catchment, and is rich in natural heritage including unspoiled creeks and rivers.
We are also experiencing growth, which will impact water quality and supply, biodiversity, recreation and climate resilience. With this in mind, it is increasingly important to proactively manage and protect our waterways and water sources into the future. In order to do this, Council have developed the following documents:
- Integrated Water Management Policy
- Integrated Water Management Strategy
- Water Sensitive Urban Design Guidelines
- Model for Urban Stormwater Improvement Conceptualisation (MUSIC) Template
These documents aim to drive smarter water management outcomes including:
- protection of the waterways and riparian habitats
- increasing community liveability
- supporting greener neighbourhoods
- supporting recreation and amenity
- supporting local biodiversity
- supporting water conservation
- supporting agriculture and other local economies
- supporting water reuse and recycling
- Improving climate resilience including minimising heat island effect and flood management
Integrated Water Management Policy
The Integrated Water Management Policy is an overarching document that clearly states objectives and principles relating to water management within Wollondilly Shire Council LGA.
Integrated Water Management Strategy
The Integrated Water Management Strategy provides much more detail on how the objectives and principles relating to water management in the Policy were developed. This includes community values relating to water, relationship to Council’s Operational Plan, projected future modelling of stormwater pollution based on current growth rates, moving away from ‘business as usual’ water management and actions Council will undertake to help drive smarter water management.
