After a substantial amount of work, including restoration of some original features that were uncovered along the way, the Shire Hall Early Works program has been completed and we are moving into the next phase. Council has recently engaged a builder to construct a new kitchen and toilet amenities. These will be located on the library side of the main hall. The Council meeting chambers will also be relocated from the current Administration Building to the space formerly occupied by the Family Day Care offices at the front of the Shire Hall.

Work will consist of, but is not limited to:

• Internal and external refurbishment work, including some demolition
• Installation of new above and underground infrastructure (e.g. power, digital connection, water, sewer)
• Connection to mains infrastructure

Some of the benefits will include:

• Fit for purpose, accessible amenities for user groups and the community
• A new commercial grade reheat kitchen
• Improved safety, access/egress and circulation – including a new lighting control room

Temporary public toilets will be installed at the back of the Shire Hall until the new amenities are open. Additionally, timed and disabled parking spaces will be available in the nearby car park whilst the work is undertaken.

Work has already started, and our current estimate for reopening the Shire Hall is August 2021, weather permitting, although ideally we would like to open earlier.

Once these works are complete, the next stage of actual construction work to the Shire Hall will not begin any earlier than 2025, as part of the Wollondilly Community, Cultural & Civic Precinct project. This will involve detailed design planning and further consultation ahead of the construction work to open up the stage area behind the Hall and to landscape the Village Green.
