The refurbishment of the Old Picton Post Office Coworking Space was officially recognised on Monday 14 August by Wollondilly Shire Council Mayor Matt Gould.
The Hon. Angus Taylor MP, Federal Member for Hume, Judy Hannan MP, Member for Wollondilly and Deputy Mayor Matthew Deeth, Councillor Briggs, Emma Reedy from Department of Regional NSW and Council staff were given a tour of the refurbished building.
It will be used as a community working space and coordinated by WorkLife, a leading operator of regional coworking spaces.
Mayor Matt Gould said, “The Old Picton Post Office holds a special place as the heart of Picton and I’m delighted to see it restored and ready to serve in the next phase of its life. Originally built in the late 19th century, it’s an amazing adaptive reuse of such an historical building and it is now completely accessible and the perfect space for local business workers.”
“The decision to repurpose the Old Picton Post Office as a coworking space is a strategic priority for Council. By supporting the development of coworking spaces, the Shire will attract and retain talent, create new jobs, and stimulate economic activity and it’s great to see the level of interest that’s already been expressed in using the space.”
Following significant damage due to floods and age, the building was restored with help from the Australian and NSW Governments.
The refurbishment of the Old Picton Post Office Coworking Space includes:
- Complete building renovation
- Reroofing
- Upgrade of the existing kitchen
- Upgrade the bathroom facilities to make it accessible
- Installation of a smart access door system
- A new steel Emergency Exit stairwell
