Wollondilly Mayor Matt Gould has welcomed the securing of sites for the future provision of public schools in Wilton by the NSW Liberal and National government, calling on all State election candidates to honour or better the commitment.

A number of sites have now been set aside by the NSW government for public schools in the growing community of Wilton. These include a new primary school at Wilton Junction which is funded to be completed in the next 5 years, a new high school at Wilton Town Centre planned for construction in the next 5 to 10 years, and a new primary school at North Wilton expected to be built in 10 to 15 years.

Mayor Gould said that he was pleased to see that Council’s consistent calls for basic enabling infrastructure for this fast-growing community were finally being heard.

“I welcome the news that these sites have now been secured for schools to be built in Wilton to support the community as it grows, and call on this plan to be honoured or bettered by whoever wins the NSW election later this month.”

“The current local public school is already bursting at the seams with new enrolments, while Picton High is still the only public high school in the entire Wollondilly Shire. Demand for places at both schools will only increase as more families move into the area.”

“Council believes that we will need four schools, three primary and one high school, funded and on track to open by 2030 at Wilton. Securing the land is a positive step towards that target, but we need these schools to be built as soon as possible, and Council will continue to advocate for them to be fast tracked.”

“Our current and future communities at Wilton, as well as the wider Wollondilly Shire, deserve access to modern, well-staffed educational facilities within a reasonable distance to their homes.”
