Picton Botanic Gardens Playspace and Amenities Upgrade
Posted on: 25.01.2024
Wollondilly Shire Council will soon commence work on an upgrade to the Picton Botanic Gardens playspace and amenities building; part of Council’s massive investment into playgrounds and sportsgrounds right across the Shire from Warragamba to Yanderra.
Construction is due to begin on 29 January on the playspace and amenities building, which is the next stage of the Picton Parklands Masterplan adopted in August 2022.
Council recently received feedback from the community about the upgrades through the Your Say community engagement tool and has incorporated those valuable ideas into the designs.
The upgrade will include a toddler and children’s playspace with a unique play feature and a boardwalk link between the two, incorporating sensory elements and water play. The current amenities block will be replaced by a new amenities building.
During the construction phase there will be accessible portable toilets in place for the park users, however, there will be times that access will be limited so park users should plan their trip, especially if they have accessibility or mobility issues.
The car park off Regreme Road will also be closed during construction. There are additional amenities and a children’s playground at nearby RSL Memorial Park, Picton.
Mayor Matt Gould said ,“I’m delighted that we can move forward with our improvements at the beautiful Picton Botanic Gardens.”
“It is important to me that we create fun spaces in our Shire where every child, every parent, and every member of our community can come together to experience the pure joy of play without limitations.”
“Projects such as the Provide play space, accessible amenities and shade sails in Wollondilly rely on additional support and we appreciate the assistance from the Australian and NSW governments under the Bushfire Local Economic Recovery Fund and the NSW Public Spaces Legacy Program for their contribution,” he said.
