Council calls for Community Members to join Strategic Reference Groups to have their say on the future of Wollondilly
Posted on: 20.01.2025
Wollondilly Shire Council is looking for interested and enthusiastic community members to join its Strategic Reference Groups and Floodplain Risk Management Committee for the new term of Council.
Expressions of Interest are now open for the six Strategic Reference Groups, which will provide meaningful opportunities for community members to engage with Council and share their local knowledge, experience and expertise, as well as for the Floodplain Risk Management Committee.
Council continues to look for ways to improve how it works and engages with the community and following the success of the Strategic Reference Groups in the previous term of Council, has used the feedback from previous members to refine the model. As a result, the total number of groups for the next term is less and they will meet more frequently.
Mayor Matt Gould said, “Wollondilly Shire Council is committed to engaging with the community on a range of priorities.”
“There are six different Strategic Reference Groups and we need people with a variety of backgrounds, skills and experience to come together and provide ideas and advice that will help shape the future of our Shire.”
“I’d like to thank the dedicated members of our community who have contributed to the previous Strategic Reference Groups and Advisory Groups, and encourage anyone with enthusiasm and relevant knowledge to take a look at the Terms of Reference for the new groups.”
The new Strategic Reference Groups are:
· Agriculture and Rural Industries
· Arts and Heritage
· People and Community
· Indigenous
· Place, Landscape and Environment
· Tourism and Local Jobs
If you’d like to apply to be a volunteer community member on a Strategic Reference Group, head to Council’s website www.wollondilly.nsw.gov.au/council/meetings/committees-and-advisory-groups/srgs-and-ags to select the one you are interested in. You will be asked to:
· Read through the Terms of Reference, which will tell you all about the group, how often it will meet, what it will focus on and what your role as a member will be.
· Fill in an Expression of Interest, providing information about yourself and why you want to be a member.
In addition to the Strategic Reference Groups, the Floodplain Risk Management Committee is also seeking members. This Committee will help address flood-related challenges in our region.
Expressions of Interest are open until 24 February 2025.
