Some facts about Council’s Roads Program
Posted on: 08.04.2021
Council is aware that there is a lot of misinformation around about how we are managing our roads program in Wollondilly.
We’d like to clarify some important points:
- We know we need to keep improving our roads. It is a huge focus for the team – both in terms of budget and resources. In light of the recent storm event, we are accelerating $4m of road reconstructions in the next 4 months with an additional $1.2m for immediate maintenance and repair. Some roads we are focusing on include Finns Road, Remembrance Driveway and Werombi and Woodbridge Roads.
- All the funds from the 2015/16 SRV have gone to our Major Road and Infrastructure Program, which we report to IPART annually. It has delivered in excess of 350 road works projects (excluding maintenance and small surface repairs). This is our yearly capital budget for roads and the SRV funding, which have been invested into our infrastructure (i.e. roads)
Each year we have increased how much we spend on capital works and maintenance. $18m was spent in 2019/20 and we are on track to spend over $20m in 2020/21.
3. Council continues to advocate to the Government for extra support, especially around road classifications and the Picton Bypass. This would free up millions of dollars that Council has spent to maintain major connecting roads and allow investment into the local roads that need it.
4. We are working on updating our road renewal program this year to make sure we are working towards fixing the highest priority roads in the Shire for the community, and we continue to encourage our residents to continue to log any road related issues through the Customer Portal to help inform the update of the road renewal program.
