Massive ongoing investment into roads continues with adoption of Wollondilly's 24/25 Operational Plan and Budget

Roads improvements and repairs are at the core of Wollondilly Shire Council’s 2024/25 Operational Plan and Budget, which was endorsed at Tuesday night’s Council meeting following a period of community consultation.
The adopted budget of $31.5 million for roads in 2024/25 will continue to build on the massive investment in recent years, with an emphasis on road renewal and reconstruction for the Shire’s 890km road network. This is part of a $77.2 million spend on roads and transport planned over the next four years.
The budget continues to increase funding for critical services with a $8.6M investment into road maintenance and crews including the creation of a new dedicated road crew, as well as additional road surveillance and inspection resources. This is on top of Council’s 2023/24 investment in a new traffic control crew, the 2022/23 investment in a new drainage and vegetation crews, and 2020/21 investment in a new road patching and maintenance crew.
Mayor Matt Gould said, “We saw again in this year’s annual community survey that road repairs remain the top priority for our residents, and we are committed to continuing this investment to ensure our roads are safe and functional.”
“I am very excited to see the ongoing investment into Council’s in-house road crews again this year, with the creation of a new civil road crew as well as additional road surveillance. This means Council now has four dedicated road crews, four dedicated drainage crews, a dedicated vegetation management crew plus traffic control, signage and
road surveillance/maintenance crews, bringing us to a total of 12 crews out working on our road network.”
“We hit some impressive targets in the past 12 months, such as the successful delivery of our biggest ever Transport Capital Works Program, along with the huge amount of additional grant-funded work which has helped to repair our road network following the devastating storm events of recent years.”
“We will continue our momentum with this year’s roads budget, which includes $22.9M for capital works and $8.6M for repairs and maintenance. Road reconstruction, heavy patching and drainage work will continue to be a focus throughout Wollondilly over the next financial year and in the years ahead.”
“Thank you to those residents and organisations who provided feedback on the Operational Plan to help make sure Council is spending money where the community’s priorities are.”
