Construction contract awarded for new Children’s Services building in milestone for Wollondilly Cultural Precinct

The highly anticipated Wollondilly Cultural Precinct is starting to come to life, with construction soon to begin on a new fit for purpose Children’s Services Building.
In what is a major milestone for the Precinct project, Wollondilly Council has awarded the construction of the new facility to Patterson Building Group.
The Children Services Building is a key element of Stage 1 of the Precinct, co-funded by the Western Parkland City Liveability Program. It follows the current refurbishment of the Shire Hall which will stand as the symbolic gateway to the Precinct, linking the old with the new.
The Children’s Services Building is an important step in the delivery plan, which will see the Performing Arts Centre, Government Services Building, village green and new Library start to emerge in the near future.
Mayor Robert Khan said that the awarding of the construction tender signified that the Cultural Precinct is becoming a reality, and the completed Children’s Services Building would be particularly welcomed by parents who live and work in the area.
“It is important that good quality, cost effective and reliable childcare is available for growing families in the Wollondilly Shire, and the new building will provide a modern, safe and centrally located service for the youngest members of our community,” he said.
“This is an exciting step and I look forward to seeing the Wollondilly Cultural Precinct really start taking shape in the next 12 months.”
The new building will facilitate the relocation of Council’s existing 30 place before and after school care and vacation care services, and has capacity to accommodate a future 30 place preschool in a modern and fit for purpose building.
This project is expected to commence in late September, with expected completion in mid-2022.
Council acknowledges the support of Federal Minister for Hume, the Hon Angus Taylor MP, Minister for Energy and Emissions Reduction and State Member for Wollondilly, Nathaniel Smith MP for the project.
