Residents and friends are invited to come along and celebrate the opening of the freshly renovated top floor of the Wollondilly Library on Saturday 29 April between 10am and 2pm, with fun activities for all ages.
As part of the celebrations, NSW Government's Woman of the Year for Wollondilly Marjo Hallowell will be talking about her book, Bargo 200 Years in the Making. Other activities will include face painting and interactive art for kids, Library tours, a pop up from Picton & District Historical and Family History Society, a coffee cart and more.
Every new member that signs up on the day will receive a free Wollondilly Library bag and those who sign up extra early could also win their choice of a free audiobook to take home and keep.
The extended upstairs space was made possible by the State Library NSW Infrastructure Grants and includes a new meeting room that community members can book, large tables and nooks to study and work in.
The new furniture provides a comfortable and welcoming environment designed for visitors to stay and enjoy for hours. The space has been made even more accessible with the provision of sit/stand desks and other assistive technology.
Mayor Matt Gould said, “This is an exciting time for the Library and for the Wollondilly Cultural Precinct project; with the extra Library space built in conjunction with the construction of the new Children’s Services Building.”
“I’d like to thank the State Library for providing the grant, so that we could provide a range of additional and more accessible areas for all of our Library users.”
“Libraries are no longer quiet buildings that just house books, they're creative and collaborative community hubs, full of spaces and activities designed to meet the changing needs of our residents.”
“What better way to celebrate the opening of this space than to have an author talk by one of our favourite local authors, Marjo Hallowell, who will be talking about her book which details the rich history of Bargo.”
The Wollondilly Library is at 42 Menangle Street Picton. To find out more about this event call 4677 8300 or visit the Library website on www.library.wollondilly.nsw.gov.au/
