People & Community Strategic Reference Group

The People and Community Strategic Reference Group will help shape Wollondilly Shire Council’s approach to community development, wellbeing, and inclusivity. Focused on enhancing the quality of life for all residents, this group will provide input and guidance on policies, services, and strategies that support a connected and thriving community. Key areas of focus include sport and recreation, disability access and inclusion, youth and senior services, multiculturalism, volunteering, and community safety. The group will also play an integral role in celebrating community achievements through events like Australia Day.

For those of you who wish to  be part of Australia Day planning, we invite you to consider joining the People and Community Strategic Reference Group, from which an Australia Day Sub-Committee is anticipated to form. For those interested in a more grass-roots and experience-led approach to areas such as youth, or disability access and inclusion, you may be interested in an opportunity to join a forthcoming Community Consultative Group. We are yet to determine the process for forming these groups so stay tuned for further advice by keeping an eye on our website and Facebook page.

  • The implementation (as appropriate), review and evaluation of the Disability Inclusion Access Plan
  • Ensuring Council is supporting people with disability and their carers to be involved fully in community life
  • Representing the views and needs of all people with disability and their carers in Wollondilly in relation to disability access and inclusion
• Community safety and crime prevention
• Access to health and community services
• Services and issues for youth and seniors including:
  • Issues and challenges faced by young people living in Wollondilly
  • Support and promotion of youth events and activities within Wollondilly
  • Recreational opportunities for young people
  • Representing the views and needs of young people in Wollondilly
  • Representing the views and needs of seniors in Wollondilly
• Council’s Australia Day Celebrations including:
  • Determining the winners of the Australia Day Awards, taking into consideration the eligibility of the nominations against the category criteria
  • Acting as ambassadors for Australia Day throughout the year and actively encouraging individuals and community groups to nominate for awards
  • Providing input into the planning, review and evaluation of the Australia Day celebration and award ceremony
  • Providing assistance with setting up, coordination and pack down of the Australia Day celebration and award ceremony
  • Providing feedback to Council about the success of the events organised for Australia Day celebrations in Wollondilly
