Permit to Exceed Sign Posted Load Limit
Existing ‘No Trucks’ load limit restrictions are in place due to the significant impact that truck axle loads have on pavement integrity. Heavy vehicles accelerate surface wear, contribute to fatigue cracking, and cause pavement deformation, leading to costly repairs and reduced road lifespan. A list of Roads and Bridges with load limits can be found here
In exceptional circumstances, Council may issue a permit for a specific vehicle where a genuine need for access is demonstrated. Upon receipt of an application, the request will be given due consideration. Allow for ten (10) business days for processing. The online application is below or download the application here
Permits will not be issued solely to allow access via the shortest route where reasonable alternative routes are available. Permits cannot be granted that override signposted bridge load limits.
Approved permit applications are valid for one year from the date of issue and a $227.50 fee will be charged for the assessment, preparation and issuing of the permit.
In accordance with Road Rules 2014 Rule No.104 (4) a ‘No Trucks’ sign “does not apply to a driver if the destination of the driver lies beyond a no trucks sign and--
(a) there is no other route by which the driver's vehicle could reach that destination, or
(b) any other route by which the driver's vehicle could reach that destination would require the vehicle to pass another no trucks sign.”
