Fire Restrictions

The Bushfire Danger Period for the Wollondilly Shire is between the 1 October to 31 March inclusive but may be varied depending on current weather and climatic conditions. Any variations to the statutory period are published in local media, on the NSW Rural Fire Service website or can also be found by calling the District Office on 4677 7000.

To carry out a bushfire hazard reduction burn including pile burns you may need:

  • An environmental approval (a Bush Fire Hazard Reduction Certificate or Council approval)
  • A permit to burn safely (if during the Bush Fire Danger Period or if the fire may pose a threat to a building).

An environmental approval is generally required for the establishment of Asset Protection Zones, fire breaks, broad acre burning, or producing smoke. The RFS issue Bushfire Hazard Reduction Certificates for genuine hazard reduction works within its powers under the Bushfire Environmental Assessment Code 2006, free of charge to the public. Contact your District Office if you would like more information or visit the Rural Fire Service Website.
